This I Believe Essay

"Whenever someone asks you to pray for them, do it."  This is something that my mother tells me quite often.  Something as simple as prayer can have a huge impact in someone's life.
My mother told me a story of how sometime last year, a girl was spending the night at her friend's house and stayed longer than intended.  It was very late as she walked home, but she was not scared because her neighborhood was only two blocks away and she knew the neighborhood like the back of her hand.  She decided to take a shortcut in the back alley so that she wouldn't have to walk so far.  As she neared the end of the alley, she saw a mysterious man lurking behind the alley.  She became hesitant and scared so she prayed.  "Dear God keep me safe on my way home" is what she prayed.  She arrived home safely and unharmed.  Over the next couple of days, there was a news report about a young girl who was raped in the back alley about 20 minutes after the other girl who had previously walked down the alley.  Realizing that it could have been her, the girl began to weep, thank God, and to pray for the other girl who was so unfortunate.  The girl then decided to go to the local police station and to tell them about what happened.  The policemen asked if she would identify the man in a lineup and he was immediately arrested.  Before he was taken away, she if she could ask the man a question.  She asked him why it had not been her that was harmed instead of the other girl.  He replied that there had been two tall men standing on either side of her that night.  The girl then realized that her prayer was answered and that she was protected the whole time without even realizing it.
As my grandmother was dying from cancer, she always mentioned how she couldn't go to sleep.  My mother would always ask her why and she would reply that there were two men standing at the foot of her bed.  No one could ever see them, but it was just God's way of saying that the angels were coming to take Grandma Shirley home with Him.
In conclusion, I believe in prayer.  I believe in angels.  I believe in hope.  I believe that no matter what, God is always looking out for you, even when you least expect it.  He is like a security blanket and says in the Bible that He will never leave you or forsake you.  Prayer sends a sense of hope to others less fortunate, that someone has taken the time to reflect on what another person is going through in order to help them.  Helping someone with something as simple as prayer can help a person in need.  It can also greatly impact someone's life in a great way.  Will you take the time to pray for someone?  Remember that you may need it one day yourself.
